As I have already mentioned most of these titles, I am going to give you my biggest like and dislike about each one.
Shadow and Bone – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Like: I love the Grishaverse. I mean, who doesn’t? I enjoyed learning more about Grisha and the way they work, interact, etc.
Dislike: As a reread, I felt like this fell more flat than I remember it the first time.
Siege and Storm – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Like: I am glad that the story picks up more than the first book. And then everyone’s favorite character, Nikolai. Did you know that he was initially meant to die at the end of Siege and Storm?
Dislike: The romance between Mal and Alina. They are just an infuriating young couple.
Paper and Fire – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Like: I love that Santi and Wolfe’s relationship develops more. All the pain they’ve been though but they’re still have each other. Santi acts like a protector when it comes to Wolfe.
Dislike: Without spoilers, the event resulting in the name of the novel. NNNNOOOOOO!!!
Ash and Quill – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Like: The last 50 pages or so ENGROSSED me. That ending! I am just glad that the next book is already out.
Dislike: Jess’s father. I mean, his actions weren’t really unexpected.
Verity – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Review here)
Like: Only five star book of the month. I loved everything about it.
Dislike: This is all personal opinion, but I didn’t enjoy the ending. Too many unanswered questions.
Bridge of Clay – DNF
Like: Tommy. He’s such a sweet child. He’s the reason why they have a cat, pigeon, dog, and goldfish as pets.
Dislike: I don’t DNF books often so that sound speak volumes. The book wasn’t written well. I think the biggest part of that was due to the perspective in which the book was written in. The story is told from Matthew, Clay’s oldest sibling, in the future. But, Matthew is telling us stories that don’t even involve him at times. So, it felt like the majority of the book was heresy.
Echo North – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (Review here)
Like: I enjoyed knowing more about the different rooms within the house. Other than the library, I wished more details about the rooms were included because I was intrigued about them. And there’s the library. I loved the idea of book-mirrors. The ability to experience stories firsthand. And then I greatly enjoyed the exuberant Hal. One of my new favorite characters.
Dislike: I don’t think there was a specific part that stuck out to me as negative. I enjoyed the story, but it didn’t WOW me.
Between Shades of Gray – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Like: The attention to detail was amazing. I felt like I was able to experience the story more due to it.
Dislike: I had high expectations after reading Salt to the Sea, which was amazing, but this story didn’t follow suit. The story dragged a lot. Found it boring at times.
